From movie stars to fictional characters, singers and the Queen, tea has won many hearts across the real and fictional world. What makes tea drinkers different from coffee drinkers is that they never hide their passion for tea. Among avid tea drinkers you can find some of the coolest, kindest and toughest fictional and real people.

Famous tea drinkers from history

  1.  Fyodor Dostoevsky

One of the world’s greatest writers, Dostoevsky was not only an avid, but a fussy tea drinker as well. He was always making his own tea by himself, as he believed no one would be able to make a perfect cup. And yes, he preheated the teapot before adding black tea leaves[1].

“I say let the world go to hell, but I should always have my tea.”
    Fyodor Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground

  2.  Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie, a popular English detective novels writer and the world’s best-selling writer of all times[2] loved to indulge in tea. In fact, she’d often include tea into her stories, and transferred her passion for black tea with clotted cream[3] onto her characters. However, her most popular character, Hercule Poirot is not much of a black tea drinker–he prefers herbal teas instead.

“Tea! Bless ordinary everyday afternoon tea!”
    Agatha Christie

  3.  Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey

The list of famous tea drinkers wouldn’t be complete without the inventor of the world’s most popular tea blend – Earl Grey. Charles Grey was a Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the first half of the 19th century. Legend says that after receiving a bergamot scented black tea as a diplomatic gift, he liked it so much he hired a tea merchant to re-invent it. And the modern Earl Grey was born.
